My tape measure lied for a year and I never noticed
I was hanging cabinets in my laundry room and every single measurement was off by an eighth of an inch, so I grabbed my old Stanley from 2019 and checked it against my new one. The tab on the end had bent from all the times I dropped it on the concrete floor, and I never thought to check the hook for play before starting. Anyone else ever trust a banged-up tape measure this long without verifying it first?

Four years of hanging cabinets, and that old Stanley never moved more than an eighth. One drop on the wrong corner and the hook twists a hair, but you didn't check because it still clicked back snug. That's on you, not the tape. Even a cheap laser measure has the same issue if you bump it wrong, so what's the difference? A bent tab isn't a lie, it's just a tool telling you to pay attention before you blame it.

Four years" and only one hair-twist drop? Man, @phoenix_campbell88, you've got some kinda luck or patience, I genuinely don't know which.
