Spent 2 years tiling my backsplash wrong before a contractor friend pointed it out
I was so proud of my kitchen backsplash until my buddy who does tile work came over last month. He took one look and asked why I didn't use any spacers between the subway tiles. I told him I thought you just butted them up tight and called it good. He laughed and showed me how the grout lines are all wonky because there's no consistency. Now I'm seriously thinking about pulling it all down and starting over cause it bugs me every time I look at it. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized you skipped a basic step for years without knowing?

OH NO, that is SO frustrating. I feel your pain completely because I did the EXACT same thing with my first bathroom floor - just laid those hexagon tiles right next to each other thinking tight was right. It took me THREE YEARS before someone pointed out the uneven gaps. The worst part is once you see it, you can't unsee it, right? Your eyes just go straight to the wonky lines every single time.

Did you read that article about using spacers with hex tiles? I swear I saw someone say even a tiny gap makes a huge difference for getting those lines straight.
