That cheap $20 stud finder from the hardware store lied to me and I drilled right into a copper pipe

Last Saturday I was hanging shelves in my living room in Phoenix and that thing said clear, so now I've got a wet patch in the drywall and a plumber coming tomorrow for $150, anyone else have a junk tool fail on them like that?

Swear those things are just guessing. Hope the patch job goes smooth.

Are you sure it's that serious though? Every time someone's told me their smart thermostat was acting up it turned out they just needed to change the batteries or reset the wifi. Weather apps are wrong half the time anyway, so what's the difference.
