That contractor who told me to skip the vapor barrier cost me $3,000
Ngl, I hired a guy who claimed he'd been doing basements for 20 years. He said vapor barriers were a waste of money in our climate here in Portland. I listened because he was local and seemed confident. Six months later I had mold creeping up the drywall and had to rip everything out. Has anyone else dealt with a contractor's bad advice that ended up costing way more than doing it right the first time?

Right, because who needs a vapor barrier in one of the rainiest cities in the country? That's like moving to Arizona and skipping the sunscreen. Sounds like that 20 years of experience was just 20 years of getting away with bad advice. Sorry you had to become a mold expert the hard way, but at least now you can spot a hack from a mile away.

20 years of getting away with bad advice" is a solid line though, not gonna lie.

Dude that stings so bad. I'd be sick if I dropped that kind of cash just to have to do it all over again. Hope the next crew actually knows what they're doing.
