The cost of lumber in 1987 vs today still shocks me
I was going through my dad's old workshop ledger last weekend, and he had receipts from a shed he built in 1987. A 2x4x8 was $1.89 back then, and a sheet of plywood ran about $12. I checked the same stuff at our local yard in Springfield this morning, and that same plywood is now $48 and change. Adjusting for inflation, that is still nearly double what he paid almost 40 years ago. It made me realize how much of my own budgeting has shifted to salvaged wood and repurposed pallets just to keep projects alive. Has anyone else noticed how lumber prices have quietly stayed high even after the pandemic spikes settled down?
