The old guy at the lumber yard told me to stop overthinking my cuts...

I was stressing over a 1/16th inch gap on a bookshelf I was building, and this old timer just walked over and said "wood moves, kid, caulk is your friend." He was right, I spent 45 minutes trying to fix something that would have been hidden anyway. Anybody else get humbled by a random stranger at a hardware store?

Happens all the time now that I look back on it. The older guys at the hardware store have seen it all and they know you can polish a turd until you're blue in the face but sometimes you just gotta move on. It's like life in general really, we spend so much time trying to make every little thing perfect when most people won't even notice. The wood moves, the paint fades, the caulk cracks eventually anyway. Those old timers figured out that done is better than perfect a long time ago.
