TIL my dad was right about not skimping on subfloor thickness

Had a talk with my old man after he saw me putting down 5/8" OSB in a bathroom. He said go 3/4" or deal with squeaks forever. Six months later that bathroom floor is still solid as a rock.

Ha! Dads and their floors, man. Mine gave me the exact same lecture about 5/8" OSB and I told him "times have changed, old man." Cut to me two years later ripping up a whole kitchen because I could hear every single footstep from across the house like I was living in a drum. Never again. 3/4" everything from now on, even if it means hauling those heavy sheets up three flights of stairs by myself. That old school advice is basically free insurance against your floor turning into a squeaky orchestra.
