Vent: used to mud drywall like a maniac til I caught what was really slowing me down
I was putting on thick coats and sanding forever for 2 years until a buddy showed me how to do thin passes with a 12 inch blade. Why did nobody tell me it saves like 4 hours per room? Anyone else learn a basic trick way later than they should have?

Right there with you, I did the same thing for way too long before someone finally set me straight. Its amazing how much easier things get when you stop fighting the mud.

That's a good way to put it. Fighting the mud just wears you out faster than anything. Only thing I'd add is it took me a while to realize the mud wasn't going anywhere. Once I stopped trying to beat it and just moved with it, everything got a lot lighter.

Yeah, but I still find myself occasionally trying to karate chop the mud. Doesn't work. Just makes me look like a guy doing karate in a swamp.
