Trying that 'flip the script' line actually worked in a debate

So I was arguing with my uncle about the border wall a couple months back. He kept saying how it's a total waste, but I remembered reading online about turning the question back on someone. So I asked him flat out, 'What would you do to stop the cartels if you were president?' He just sat there quiet for like 10 seconds before saying he hadn't thought about it. Has anyone else tried that approach where you just throw their own question back at them?

Wait, wasn't that more "turning the question around" than actually saying "flip the script" though?

Exactly @felix155, "turning the question around" is a good way to put it though... feels like both can sort of blend together depending on the context. The whole idea is really just about redirecting the focus back on the other person or the situation somehow. Maybe "flip the script" has a bit more of a dramatic or intentional ring to it, like you're actively changing the flow of things.
