Old drafter told me to stop using my fancy scale and just eyeball it
Last month I was working on a set of floor plans for a garage addition in Toledo, and this 30-year vet named Carl walked by my desk. He looked at my digital scale and said "you're overcomplicating it, just count the grid lines like I've done since 1992." So I tried his method on a quick sketch and honestly it saved me like 4 minutes per sheet. Has anyone else had an old-timer show them a trick that felt backwards but actually worked better?

Carl's not wrong, grid lines are basically the same as the old-school graph paper method (and that stuff never failed). It's wild how much faster you can move when you stop obsessing over the decimals and just trust the layout.

Oh man you totally nailed it. That's exactly what I was thinking but couldn't put into words. It's like once you accept that perfect measurements aren't always the point, everything just clicks and flows better. I've caught myself stressing over tiny fractions for way too long, only to realize later that nobody's gonna notice if something's off by a millimeter or two. The graph paper thing is a great comparison too because it forces you to commit to a big picture instead of zooming in on tiny details. At the end of the day, getting something done is way better than getting it perfect but never finishing.
