Tried using a digital angle finder on a staircase stringer and my layout came out 3 degrees off

I double checked with a speed square and caught the error before cutting, so now I'm debating whether digital tools are worth the risk of battery drain or calibration drift on a job site like this one in Austin last week, what do you all trust more for precision layouts?

Did you ever have one of those days where your brain just checks out early? I was resharpening a chisel once and got totally lost in thought, ended up dragging my thumb right across the edge... that woke me up pretty quick.
