Appreciation post: That moment I realized I'd been running my dredge pump dry for 6 months

I was out near Greenville last week working a sand bar and my buddy Dan came by to check on me. He listened to the pump for like five seconds and just shook his head. Said you gotta keep the suction head submerged or you're just chewing up the impeller for no reason. I had no idea. I'd been pulling it up to clear blockages and letting it run dry a bit every time. Looked at the wear rings after he told me and they were shot. New ones cost me $400. Has anyone else made this dumb mistake or am I the only one?

Hold up though, I actually run mine dry on purpose sometimes to clear out muck without shutting everything down. Never had to replace wear rings once in two years.

Yeah but my luck I'd forget it's dry and crank it full throttle with the lid off lol
