Finally cleared that 20-year-old silt plug in the Helena channel

Last month we got the contract to dredge the old mill pond off the Helena river bend. Three years ago I took a small cutterhead in there and got stuck on the same sandbar twice. This time I ran the pump at half throttle for the first two passes and used a jet ring to break up the hardpack. The plug finally gave way after about 4 hours of slow grinding. Has anyone else dealt with a spot that just defies the usual swing method, or is it just this weird clay mix we have?
