Finally got my bucket cycle time down under 45 seconds on the old Erie 350

For years I just ran the swing and hoist at the same speed, figured it was fine. About six months ago, a guy from the Michigan crew told me to try a slower swing on the fill and a faster hoist on the empty. Tried it out on a sand job in Toledo last week, and after a few hours of tweaking, I shaved a solid 15 seconds off my average cycle. The boss noticed the extra yardage at the end of the shift. Anyone else have a little timing trick that made a big difference?

Wait, you were running the swing and hoist at the same speed the whole time? How did you not shake the teeth out of your head on the empty swing back?

What speed did you use then?

30mph on the hoist made the return trip smooth enough for me.
