Hit 25 years of dredging last week and didn't even realize it until my boss brought it up

I was sitting in the break room last Friday just eating my lunch and my boss walks in with a cake. Turns out I'd been running dredges for exactly 25 years to the day. I honestly had no idea because I don't keep track of that stuff. He pulled my old hire paperwork from the file and showed me the date. 25 years on the same dredge boat on the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge. That kind of time just sneaks up on you when you're focused on the work. It felt good to be recognized but also weird to think about all the sand and mud that's moved through those pumps over the years. Has anyone else had a milestone catch them off guard like that?

25 years on the same dredge boat" is wild. That's basically a whole career sitting on the same hunk of metal in the same river. It's cool your boss remembered though, most places would just let that slide right by. Snuck up on me too a few years back when I hit 20 years at my old warehouse job. You blink and suddenly a quarter century of your life is just gone, all that time spent moving stuff from one place to another.

Yeah man just keeping your head down and showing up is how the years add up.
