Old salt told me to grease the cutterhead every 6 hours, not 12
Been running a dredge on the Mississippi for 8 years and always greased every 12 hours like the manual said. Then a guy named Larry who's been doing this since the 80s told me to bump it to every 6 hours. Tried it last month and my bearing temps dropped by 15 degrees and the head runs smoother. Any of you guys run a different schedule than the book says?

Man that's a solid tip from Larry. I've seen the same thing on our cutterhead, the old guys usually have tricks the manual never mentions. Glad your bearing temps dropped, that's a good sign you found the right interval for your setup.

Hate to see a good operator struggle with something that should be simple, you know? Those older guys really do have a way of cutting through the nonsense in the manual, haha. Glad to hear the temps are dropping, that's always the first thing I check too when I'm worried about grease intervals. It's like the machine is telling you "hey, we're good here" when the numbers stay steady. Solid advice all around, keep at it.
