Stuck a 6-inch cutterhead in a clay shelf on the Ohio River back in 2018

My cutterhead dug into a hard clay shelf near Louisville and the whole barge started swinging sideways before I could kill the swing winch, so I had to reverse the ladder, kick the pump down to half speed, and work the port and starboard spuds in sequence for 20 minutes to get us squared back up - has anyone else dealt with unexpected subsurface conditions that changed your whole approach on a job?

Man, sounded like you were wrestling a mudpuppy in a washing machine.

That washing machine must have been making some serious noise. Did you ever figure out what was actually causing the rattle or was it just one of those things you learned to live with? I had a dryer once that sounded like a freight train until I found a loose screw in the drum, so I'm curious if you got to the bottom of it.
