That time a blue heron rode my dredge for 20 minutes near Baton Rouge
Last month I was running the ladder near the Atchafalaya outlet when this big blue heron just lands on the gantry. He rode along for a full 20 minutes, staring at the turbidity like he was supervising my cut. I slowed down, figured he'd head off, but nope, he stayed until I hit the turn and then he took off with a splash. My deckhand got a photo but it's blurry because he was laughing so hard. Has anyone else had wildlife hitch a ride on their rig?

Remember herons don't nest near brackish water like that, so he was just passing through.
