That time our cutterhead wrapped a steel cable in the harbor at Newport
Working the berth at Newport shipyard last month and we hit something that just stopped the swing dead. Shut down power, dove the ladder myself in 40 feet of murky water, and found a mooring line cable tangled around the cutterhead like a snake. Spent 4 hours with a cutting torch on a pole and a diver down bagging the slack, managed to slice it free without damaging the bearings. My mentor always said check the swing load before you blame the hydraulics, and he was spot on. Anyone else had a wrap that took half a shift to clear, what's your go to trick for preventing it again?
