Watching a cutterhead get fouled on the Ohio River changed how I think about debris surveys.
Everyone swears by the standard sonar sweep, but after that shutdown near Louisville, I now send a diver down first if there's any hint of old timber. Anyone else skip the tech and go manual first?

Honestly, I gotta agree with you guys but I've seen enough jobs where that "freak accident" cost way more than just sending a diver down first. @riverhill, sonar helps but the diver catches the stuff that'll really screw your day.

That Louisville shutdown was a freak accident though, right? Sending a diver first for every hint of timber seems like a huge cost jump for what's usually a low risk. Sonar catches 99% of it.
