Can we talk about the homeowner who watched me tape for 2 hours straight
Last Tuesday I was finishing up a basement job in a rancher over near Mill Creek. The homeowner, this retired guy in his 70s, kept coming down to "check on progress" but really he was just curious about the craft. He asked me why I butter the inside corners before I fold the paper instead of after. I explained it keeps the mud from pushing out the back and gives a cleaner crease. Then he watched me do a whole wall of flats without saying a word. When I finished he just nodded and said "you make that look easy but I bet it took you 10 years to get there." That stuck with me because most people either micromanage or ignore you entirely. Has anyone else had a customer who actually gets what we do?

That must be the one in a hundred who actually appreciates the craft.

Did you see that guy on the news who spent a whole year carving a single wooden spoon?
