Had to choose between a 4x8 and a 4x10 sheet for a tricky ceiling patch
I was fixing a water stain on a vaulted ceiling in a house over in Bellingham. The hole was long and narrow, and I had to decide between cutting a 4x8 sheet and having a seam or hauling up a heavier 4x10 to try for a single piece. I went with the 4x10 to avoid taping, but getting it up the stairs and holding it in place solo was a real fight. What's your go-to when the patch shape is awkward?

Man, I feel your pain on that solo ceiling lift. Did you end up using a deadman prop or just muscle it up? Last time I had a weird L-shaped patch, I actually spliced two smaller pieces on a flat surface first, like a little pre-made panel, so I only had to wrestle one lighter piece up the ladder. The joint was already taped and set, so I just had to mud the edges.

That pre-made panel idea from @jackson.jenny is clever, but was the 4x10 worth the fight to avoid a seam?
