Had to pick between two taping knives for a big job

Was finishing a basement remodel in Arlington last week and I had to choose between my 10 inch and 12 inch taping knife for the flat work. I went with the 12 inch even though I'm more comfortable with the smaller one cause it covers more ground faster. Took me a bit to get used to the extra weight but by the end of the second wall I was moving way quicker than usual. Anyone else find bigger knives worth the learning curve?

Yeah I had the same struggle when I switched to a 12. Felt like I was wrestling it at first but after a few passes it just clicked and I was flying through the mud. Glad you pushed through cause that extra coverage really saves time on big flat sections.

Man, I was totally the opposite for years. I always swore by my 10 inch and thought the bigger ones were just for guys who couldn't get a smooth finish with a smaller blade. But last month I helped a buddy drywall his whole garage and he handed me his 12 inch. I gave it a shot and it honestly changed my mind real quick. Once you get the touch down it's way less passes and the mud lays out smoother. I still keep my 10 inch around for tight spots but I'm starting to see why people go big.
