Last Tuesday was one of the worst drywall days I've had in 15 years
I had a job in a small house in Chattanooga, just taping and mudding a bedroom. Everything was going smooth until I realized the homeowner had used some cheap off brand joint compound I never worked with before. It dried way too fast and started cracking within an hour. I had to scrape off three full coats and start over with my usual Sheetrock brand mud. Took me almost twice as long as I planned and I was there until 9 PM. The homeowner kept coming in to "check on progress" which made it worse. Has anyone else run into that mystery brand compound that just doesn't hold up?

Pulled three coats off myself last year with some no-name bucket from a flea market. That stuff turned into concrete basically the second it hit the drywall. Had chunks falling off before I even got the second coat on. Never again I'm sticking with what works even if it costs a few bucks more.

Man I feel your pain. I once grabbed a bucket of "premium" paint from a discount bin and it looked like chunky milk no matter how much I stirred it. Ended up using a whole roll of paper towels just to wipe drips off the floor. Made me wonder if my walls were secretly judging me for being cheap.
