Old timer told me to stop using paper tape on inside corners...
He said just use mud and a corner trowel instead, so I tried it on a small closet in Denver last Tuesday and it actually came out way flatter with less bubbling. Anyone else ditch paper tape on corners or is it just me?

Honestly, I tried the same thing in my basement last year and never looked back. The trick for me was keeping the mud a little stiffer than usual so it doesn't slide off the trowel as you go. Ngl, once you get the hang of working it into the corner and smoothing it in one pass, it saves a ton of time and looks way cleaner.

Huh. Stiffer mud, huh? Do you add water back in to get it workable again if it firms up while you're using it?

Add water back? Nah man. That's a one-way street. Once it firms up you're just making soup. Learned that the hard way. Now I mix small batches. Use it fast. Toss the leftovers before they turn into drywall concrete.
