Pro tip: I thought using a 12-inch knife on ceilings was just showing off until I tried it on a Reno job
My buddy in Vegas swore by it, and after one awkward day, I realized it cuts taping time by a solid third on big flat areas. Anyone got a favorite brand for a wider blade that doesn't feel like a boat paddle?

Man, that reminds me of my friend's disaster story. He tried taping his whole garage ceiling with a 6-inch knife, said his arms were dead for two days. I told him what @gavins43 said about the hallway, so he borrowed a 12-inch from his uncle. Next time I saw him, he was done in half a day and the finish was way smoother, no ridges. He said it was like the difference between pushing a lawn mower and driving a tractor.

Honestly thought the big knives were just for pros trying to look cool. Taping a long hallway ceiling changed my mind completely. That extra width lets you bed the tape in one smooth pull instead of three short ones. Felt way less like a workout by the end of the day.
