Mixing mud too thick" is a classic rookie mistake.

Okay but is it really that big of a deal? Skyler Carter's story is funny, but some jobs just need a stiffer mix, especially if you're working overhead or on a wall. Thick mud is a pain to spread, sure, but it doesn't automatically mean the work is bad. The Denver guy might have just been used to working in different conditions. Sometimes you just get used to your own way and it works fine for you.

That "rookie mistake" line from calebw50 is funny because it's so true. I saw a guy once who mixed his so thick the trowel would stand straight up in the bucket. He was fighting it all day, sweating more than he was spreading. The Denver guy probably had the same look on his face, just watching the struggle. Some people think thicker means stronger, but it just means you're working against yourself. It's one of those things you don't know until someone points it out.
