Watching a hotel crew tape corners in Denver reset my whole approach

I stopped by a job site in Denver last month to pick up a check and saw a two man crew finishing 40 corners with nothing but a 6 inch knife and a spray bottle, no prefill boxes or metal corners, and I asked their foreman how long that method took him to master and he just said 'about 15 years of messing up' so now I'm rethinking my own corner routine, has anyone else switched back to hand taping after trying all the fancy tools?

Did you see that video from the Drywall Finishing Forum where the guy times both methods? He did ten corners with a metal bead and ten with paper tape, and the hand tape was only about four minutes slower but the finish was way smoother. I still keep a box of prefill for big gaps, but for regular corners I've been practicing that wet tape trick with a spray bottle and it's cut my sanding time down quite a bit. That foreman's probably got a lot of good habits worth picking up, even if it takes a while to get the feel for it.
