A caseworker told me to stop saying 'when I go back' and it messed me up
She said it in a flat voice during my 3rd appointment in Chicago, 'You're not going back, so stop planning around it,' and I started listing my documents in my head instead of thinking about rent here, anyone else get that kind of direct pushback and did it actually help or just sting?

That blunt honesty stings now but probably saves you years of gray area.

Honestly, I gotta push back on that a little, @thomas291. Sure, blunt honesty clears the air fast, but sometimes it just shuts the whole conversation down before anyone can explain where they're coming from. Like, I've had friends tell me something straight up, and yeah, it was true, but it came out so harsh that I just got defensive instead of actually hearing them. A little tact can still save you the gray area without torching the bridge you might need later. Ngl, timing and delivery matter just as much as the truth itself.
