Small win: figured out how to get my kids' school records translated and notarized in one day
After 4 months of dead ends in Toronto, I finally got the whole packet done at the Ethiopian consulate annex and a licensed translator on Yonge St, cost me $210 but every page is official now. My daughter starts grade 3 on Monday, first time she'll be in a real classroom since we fled. Anyone else hit a bureaucratic wall that just needed one specific office visit to unlock?

That $210 hurts but it's worth every penny for that Monday morning. The consulate annex on Yonge is the one place that actually moves, and the trick is going on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning before 10, the line is way shorter. For anyone doing this later: bring two copies of everything, because the school board and the translator each want their own set. Also get the translator to staple and stamp the whole packet together, if pages get loose they can reject it at the board office. That four month wall is usually just one missing stamp from the right office. Good luck to your daughter on Monday, she's going to love it.
