Vent: My garage door opener gave out mid-winter at -32 and the spring snapped
Had to call a pro in St. Albert after my DIY torsion bar fix went sideways and the door slammed shut, anyone else just leave this stuff to the pros now?

Jeez, that's a rough one. I heard from a buddy who does overhead doors that torsion springs are the number one thing homeowners mess up when they try to fix it themselves. The tension those things hold is no joke, it can kill you or at least take a few fingers off if you don't know what you're doing. I get the whole DIY thing, I used to think I could handle everything too, but after seeing a few videos of springs flying off, I'm done with that gamble. You're lucky the pro got to you, especially in that cold, because those springs snap even faster when the metal gets brittle. Paying for the repair is a lot cheaper than a trip to the ER, that's for sure.
