Got told my lawnmower was cutting too low and it saved my grass

A guy from my neighborhood in Edmonton actually stopped me while I was mowing last July and said I was scalping the lawn. I had the blade set to like 1.5 inches because I wanted it to look sharp. He explained that taller grass shades the roots so you don't get those brown patches in August. I raised it to 3 inches and now my yard actually survives the heat waves. Has anyone else had a random stranger give you lawn advice that actually worked?

Nah, shorter cuts look better and I've never had issues with browning, different soil types matter more.

Tall fescue actually browns less with taller cuts in summer.
