Had a chat with my neighbor about the old Capilano bridge replacement

I ran into Mr. Chen at the bus stop near my place on Jasper Ave a few days ago. He's lived here since the 70s and started talking about how the old Capilano footbridge used to flood every spring before they added the new drainage system. He said the city spent like $1.2 million on that project back in 2015 and now the walkway holds up even after heavy rains. It hit me different because I've grumbled about construction delays before and never thought about what actually gets fixed down the line. Made me wonder how many other old projects around Edmonton are quietly doing their job without anyone noticing. Has anyone else talked to a long-timer about changes that actually worked out okay?

Wait, $1.2 million just for drainage on a footbridge? That's wild, I had no idea they spent that kind of cash on little stuff like that.

$450k to repaint a bike lane near me, makes no sense at all.
