Had to pick between the south side farmer's market and the one in Strathcona on Saturday
Honestly, I usually hit both but this past weekend I only had time for one. I chose the south side one because I needed specific honey from that guy near the entrance, and his prices are always a bit lower than the Strathcona sellers. Got a big jar for $12 instead of $15, so I feel like I made the right call. But I missed those mini donuts at Strathcona, which hit different. Anyone else pick one over the other and regret it?

Actually I have to gently correct you on the honey prices. The fellow at the south side farmer's market near the entrance, he's been raising his prices on and off all summer. I paid $14 for a medium jar just two weeks ago and I was a bit put out because I remembered paying $10 last year. The Strathcona sellers are actually a bit more consistent in my experience, even if the entry fee for the market itself is steeper. But you're right about those mini donuts at Strathcona, they really are something special. Maybe next Saturday I'll try to make it to Strathcona first and then swing by the south side for any leftovers.

Well I'll be... never thought about the timing angle before. You know what gets me though? Those honey prices change based on what flowers are blooming that week too. I overheard one beekeeper say the clover honey runs cheaper in early summer but the buckwheat stuff gets pricey by August. Maybe that's what's happening with your guy at the south side entrance, he could be switching his stock without saying anything. The Strathcona sellers might be more consistent because they're selling blended honey that doesn't fluctuate as much. Something to keep an eye on next time you're comparing jars anyway...
