Honestly, parking spot saving during the winter - does anyone else think it's getting out of hand?

So I live near Whyte Ave and for the last two winters, people have been using lawn chairs and old tires to save shoveled spots. I get the frustration of spending 20 minutes digging out your car, but is it really fair to claim public street parking like that? My neighbor and I are split - she says it's just common courtesy after all that work, but I think it's basically claiming public space. I tried leaving a note asking about it and got yelled at by some guy in a truck. What's the actual rule here or is it just an unwritten Edmonton thing that we all have to deal with?

Last winter on 118 Ave they actually had a bylaw officer come through and ticket people for leaving shopping carts and old furniture in the street. The rule is technically 24 hours max for any vehicle or object on a public road, so those lawn chairs are actually illegal if someone wanted to push it. I got into it with my own neighbor last year because he saved his spot with a broken particle board desk and it sat there for 3 days before someone just tossed it in their truck bed.

Take a photo of the chair and report it as abandoned property to the city.
