I finally fixed my wobbly deck, but it took 6 trips to Rona
Bought a house near Whyte Ave last year and the deck felt like a trampoline every time I stepped on it. Turns out the previous owner used regular screws instead of structural ones, so I had to replace like 80 of them. Each trip to Rona I forgot something, then realized I needed a different tool halfway through. Has anyone else dealt with a DIY disaster that should have been simple?

Sarah's crowbar story reminds me of my drill that's still in my neighbor's garage.

Six trips to Rona sounds like a personal record. Did you at least get their loyalty card punched? My deck saga ended with me realizing the level I bought was off by a quarter inch, so everything slants slightly to the left now. It's fine if you only stand on one side. Ended up using a crowbar to pry out a stubborn board and launched myself into a bush. Neighbor asked if I was starting a new garden feature.

That quarter inch thing is the kind of mistake that haunts you forever. You'll be standing on that deck in five years having a nice barbecue and your brain will just whisper "it's crooked" and you'll have to go sit down. I had a similar thing happen with a fence post I set in concrete. Used a level that was apparently calibrated by a drunk person. By the time I realized it, the concrete was already hard. Now my fence leans just enough to look like it's trying to wave at the neighbors. The crowbar flying into the bush is honestly a rite of passage at this point. I think every deck builder has a crowbar that lives semi-permanently in their neighbor's yard now.
