Shoutout to that $40 rain barrel I bought off Kijiji
I picked up this beat up plastic barrel from a guy in Mill Woods for just 40 bucks last spring and hooked it to my downspout. After a dry stretch in July my lawn was the only green spot on the block because I had all that free water stored up. Has anyone else tried the city's rain barrel rebate program or is it not worth the paperwork?

That 40 bucks was a steal for a barrel in Mill Woods, those guys usually want double for stuff that's been sitting in their yard for years. I felt that July drought hard too, my grass was crispy while the neighbors' was toast, nothing beats getting a full barrel for free after a few good rains. The city rebate program is actually legit, I signed up last year and got 50 bucks back just for sending a receipt and a photo of my setup. It took maybe 20 minutes to fill out the online form, no mailing in paper or anything dumb like that. If you go for it, just save your Kijiji receipt and a picture of the barrel hooked up to your downspout, they're pretty chill about approving it. Worth it for free water and cash back, beats the hell out of paying the city for tap water on a hot day.

Ngl, "beaten up plastic barrel from a guy in Mill Woods" is such a classic Edmonton Kijiji score, I love it. But wait, the city has a rain barrel rebate program? I had no idea that was even a thing, I just assumed we paid full price for everything. Honestly, if I can get some cash back for saving water, I might actually fill out that paperwork, even if it's annoying.
