Unpopular opinion: that nice weather last week actually ruined my garden plans

Everyone was loving that 20 degree stretch in April but it tricked my tomatoes into sprouting early and then the frost on Tuesday killed half of them... what's your trick for keeping seedlings safe?

Used to be one of those people who cheered on every warm day in early spring. Never really thought about what it does to plants until last year when my pepper seedlings got wrecked the exact same way. You're right, that April heatwave is a trap for anyone trying to grow from seed. My trick now is to watch the long range forecast and if we get a warm spell before the last frost date, I just start my seeds later. Or I keep them in the garage at night and drag them out during the day. Hardening off slow is the real key, not rushing things when the sun decides to show up early.

Read that same tip in a gardening forum last week, it works.
