Checked out a new build in Summerside last week and the basement layout was a total surprise

The listing said 'finished basement' but when I got there, they had put the laundry room right in the middle of what should have been the main rec space. It was a weird choice that chopped the whole area in half. The builder's rep said it's a new floor plan they're trying to save costs on plumbing. I walked through three other new homes in that price range, around $550k, and none of them had that setup. It really makes you look past the shiny counters and check the actual use of space. Has anyone else seen these odd basement designs popping up in new communities?

Wait, isn't that the 'mechanical room' placement? I've seen that a lot lately, but it's usually tucked in a corner.

Yeah, that corner spot is the classic move for a reason.
