Faced with a 1980s split level vs a 1990s bi-level in Callingwood last month
I spent a whole Saturday going back and forth between a 1980s split level with original pink bathroom tile and a 1990s bi-level that needed new carpet everywhere. I picked the split level because the kitchen had actual counter space, but now I've got a bathroom that looks like a diner from Stranger Things. Anyone else gone for character over condition and regretted it or am I the only one?

That pink tile might actually be worth something though lol. I know a guy who flips houses in Callingwood and he told me people go crazy for original 80s bathrooms now, especially if the tile is in good shape. He sold a split level last year with a green bathroom that looked straight out of a horror movie, and the buyer specifically wanted it kept because it was "authentic." So you might have lucked out without knowing it. The carpet thing is easy to fix, but finding a kitchen with decent counter space in those older homes is rare. My buddy's 90s bi-level had this weird peninsula thing that was basically useless for actual cooking.

WAIT hold on I gotta disagree about the pink tile though. That stuff is HIDEOUS and I don't care what some flipper says, nobody actually wants to live with a bathroom that looks like a melted strawberry milkshake. The green bathroom thing is different, green is at least somewhat trendy right now. Pink is just... pink. It's the color of 1980s desperation and bad decisions. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig, you know? Carpet is way easier to rip out than matching custom tile from 40 years ago that nobody makes anymore.
