Realtors make money on volume not just commission, thats a key detail.

@adams.faith nailed it with that "quiet, steady approach" line. I had a similar thing with a contractor last year. I wanted to lowball him hard on a patio job because I thought that was how you win. But the guy just smiled and said he'd pass. So I came back with a more fair offer and he actually did a BETTER job than what we agreed on because he remembered I treated him decent. @gavincampbell is right too, for realtors volume is everything, nobody makes bank on one sale alone. Being a jerk over a few bucks just means people wont send their friends your way later.

That thing about being talked out of lowballing reminds me of how we often think being aggressive gets us ahead, when really it just burns bridges. I see it all the time at the grocery store, people arguing over a coupon or a price adjustment like it's their last dollar. Same with asking for a raise or negotiating with a contractor. The quiet, steady approach almost always works better in the long run. People remember how you treated them, not just the number you offered or demanded.
