Had a talk with a home inspector yesterday that changed my view on old wiring

He told me my 1950s house has cloth insulated wiring that looked fine but tested fragile, and said it's a ticking time bomb for insurance claims. Now I'm second guessing my offer on a similar fixer upper on 118 Ave I was ready to buy. Anyone else deal with surprise knob and tube or cloth wiring after moving in?

Cloth wiring actually lasted fine until people started adding insulation over it.

Shocked me when the inspector said the same thing about my place... I had no idea people were just shoving insulation right over that old cloth stuff like it was nothing. Makes me wonder how many attic fires could've been avoided if someone had just said "hey maybe don't do that." I seriously had nightmares about it after moving in, kept picturing sparks flying behind the walls at night. My uncle lost his garage to old wiring catching fire under some foam insulation, so trust me, that ticking time bomb part is way too real. If you're still on the fence about that fixer upper, maybe get a second opinion from an electrician before you sign anything.
