My 'quick' basement moisture check in a 1970s bungalow turned into a $15k foundation quote
I used a cheap moisture meter from the hardware store and got a normal reading, but a proper inspection found major weeping tile failure. Anyone else get burned by a DIY check that missed something big?

Moisture meters only tell part of the story, they can't see what's happening behind the walls. My neighbor had a similar shock when their meter was fine but the inspection camera showed roots had crushed the old clay pipe. Those tools are good for surface checks, not diagnosing hidden system failures. It's the difference between checking if the floor is wet and knowing why the whole room is flooding.
