My realtor's 'drive by at night' tip actually showed me a side of the neighborhood I never saw

I was looking at a house in Bonnie Doon last fall, and everything seemed perfect during the day. Quiet street, nice yard, the whole deal. My realtor, Sarah, told me to do something I thought was silly: drive by the place on a Friday night around 9 PM. I figured it was a waste of gas, but I went anyway. Man, was I wrong. The quiet street turned into a total party zone for the student renters three doors down, with cars parked on both sides of the road and music blasting. It was a completely different vibe. That one extra visit saved me from making an offer on a house that would have driven me nuts. I ended up buying in a different area because of it. Has anyone else had a simple piece of advice like that reveal a dealbreaker you totally missed?

Actually, that's a solid tip but it's not just for Friday nights. You really need to check a place at different times. A Tuesday afternoon tells you nothing about Monday morning trash pickup or the neighbor who leaves for work at 5 AM. I've seen people buy on a quiet Sunday and then realize they're next to a school bus stop on weekday mornings. That one extra drive-by is good, but doing a few at random times is what really shows the full picture.

Exactly, and it's the little things you only notice at odd hours. We almost rented a place that seemed perfect until I drove by on a Wednesday evening and the whole street was lined with overflowing trash cans from a missed pickup. The smell in the summer heat would have been awful. You really do need to see the rhythm of the whole week.
