Paid $900 for a new furnace filter and then found the problem was something else
My heating bill spiked bad last January in Edmonton. Turns out the tech sold me a top-tier filter I didn't need, the real issue was a dirty blower fan. Anyone else get upsold on HVAC stuff that didn't fix the real problem?

Oh man, that is infuriating. Honestly, I've been there with HVAC guys trying to sell me on the most expensive filters and cleaning services when the real problem was something totally basic. Tbh it feels like they bank on people not knowing enough to call them out on it. That $900 stings extra hard when it didn't even fix your issue. I'd be leaving a very honest review about that experience if I were you.
