That advice from a home inspector about conduit size saved me $300

Last summer a home inspector told me to always run 3/4 inch conduit instead of 1/2 inch for new builds, even on small jobs. I ignored him on a duplex in Edmonton and had to redo the whole run after the owner wanted extra wiring. Has anyone else had a pro's tip that seemed overkill but actually made sense later?

Funny you say that because I'm the exact opposite - my husband once told me to go with the bigger pipe on a backyard run and I was like nah, that's just your man-brain wanting to overbuild things. Turns out he was right when I tried to add a hot tub later and had to dig up half the yard. I swear my brain just sees any advice that saves money upfront and says "yes please" without thinking about future me who'll be stuck fixing it.

@sarah198 That hot tub thing is exactly what happened with me - I was all about saving that $50 upfront and then spent $800 on the redo. What was your husband's reaction when you had to dig it up, did he give you the "I told you so" look or did he actually help without making you feel dumb? Because my electrician friend still brings up my conduit mistake every time we grab a beer and it's been two years.
