That conversation with the inspector about foundation cracks changed my whole approach
I was talking to a home inspector in Mill Woods last week and he said 90% of the hairline cracks he sees are just settlement, not structural issues. Has anyone else found themselves overthinking these things after buying their first place?

Honestly, did your inspector mention anything about the age of the concrete? I read somewhere that older foundations take longer to fully settle, so hairline cracks in a house from the 70s might be less of a worry than in a newer build. Also, those vertical hairline cracks are usually fine, but horizontal ones or cracks wider than a quarter inch are where you gotta pay attention. That conversation probably saved you a lot of unnecessary worry down the line.

Totally feel you on that, @ericp67, and you're spot on about old concrete doing its own thing over time.
