Warning: That new home warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on
My buddy bought a place in Summerside back in February and the furnace died in March. The builder told him the warranty claim would take 4-6 weeks to process. He paid $350 out of pocket for an emergency repair since it was -25 out. The builder finally got back to him in June and said the claim was denied because of 'improper maintenance'. Now he's stuck with the bill and the whole process was a nightmare. Has anyone here actually had a builder warranty pay out without a fight?

$350 for a furnace in -25 weather and they denied it for "improper maintenance" - that's brutal. I had a similar runaround with a builder in Airdrie over a roof leak. They dragged it out for months then blamed "normal settling" which was total BS. Seems like these warranties are designed to deny everything unless you have a lawyer on speed dial.

Yeah but $350 for a furnace call in -25 is actually pretty standard around here. Most HVAC companies charge between 200 and 400 just to show up, especially when it's that cold. I've seen quotes go over 500 for emergency calls on weekends. The real issue is them denying the warranty claim over improper maintenance. They probably wanted proof of annual cleanings or filter changes that nobody actually keeps records of. It's a classic loophole they use to get out of paying for repairs.
