Finally got my license after failing the business law section twice
Wasted almost $400 on retake fees because I didn't study the code book close enough... just focused on the calculations. Anyone have a good method for memorizing the NEC articles?

What makes you think memorizing articles is the right goal? I passed that section by focusing on how to find answers fast in the index. The code book is a reference tool, not a textbook. Trying to memorize it is a huge waste of energy. You need to practice looking things up under time pressure. That skill is what they are really testing.

My journeyman told me about a guy who failed three times trying to memorize Article 250. He finally passed when he started drilling with a messed up index, like one with coffee stains and torn pages. It forced him to think of three different ways to find the same rule. That exam book might be pristine, but your real world code book never is.

You just described my first year attempting the journeyman's exam. I walked in there thinking I had Article 250 memorized cold and then spent fifteen minutes panicking because I couldn't figure out how the index was arranged. My code book still had that new book smell and the binding cracked the first time I opened it. Ended up flipping through sections like a madman while the clock ticked. Nancy's right, looking stuff up fast is the real skill. I've still got coffee rings on my index page from studying and that's probably what got me through the second time.
