I used to think smart breakers were just a gimmick for rich people

When I first saw them at a supply house a couple years back, I figured they were just another thing to break and cost a fortune. Then I got a job wiring a full house retrofit in Tempe where the owner insisted on them. I was ready for a headache, but after setting up the app and seeing it track each circuit's power use in real time, I changed my mind. We found a fridge on its last legs because the app showed its draw spiking weirdly over a week. The homeowner fixed it before it died and spoiled all their food. Now I'm not saying they're for every job, but they can actually find problems you'd never catch. Has anyone else had a job that made them flip on a piece of tech they used to hate?

Yeah, the energy tracking is low-key the best part. I tell clients to just watch for any circuit that starts acting weird over a week or two, saves so much guesswork later.

My buddy's fridge kept tripping a breaker at random times... drove him nuts for a month. He finally checked his energy monitor and saw that circuit spiking every afternoon. Turned out the fridge compressor was dying and pulling way too much power right before it shut off.

Remember when I thought energy monitors were just for cutting bills? Seeing how they catch failing appliances like that is a total game changer. My neighbor had a similar mystery with her garage door opener. The monitor showed tiny power jumps for weeks before it finally died. Now I see it's more about spotting small problems before they turn into big, expensive ones.
